Wings Silence Yotes

They’ve had a helluva season, but last night the Phoenix Coyotes were simply no match for the storied Detroit Red Wings. The Red Wings put the Yotes’ Cinderella Story to bed with a beating on the ice of six to one.

The game started off on a bad paw for the Yotes, they simply were getting outplayed. Vezina finalist Ilya Bryzgalov did all that he could to keep them in the game, but in the end it was simply not enough. The first period the Red Wings took some real estate in the offensive zone and hammered Bryzgalov with shot after shot after shot. Their persistence from the get go was a foreboding sign of things to come later in the second and third period. Pavel Datsyuk scored the opener and then again less than a few minutes later. Vernon Fiddler scored the only Coyotes goal to prevent the shutout and bring about a small tide of momentum before the Wings went on to snack on the dreams of Phoenix fans and players. Brad Stuart regained the Wings lead of two goals while the two teams were playing four on four hockey. Nicklas Lidstrom would beat Bryzgalov another time that second period to make it 4-1 Wings. Then in the third period Todd Bertuzzi and Lidstrom would score to put the final nail in the coffin for the home team.

The Wings will face the first seeded Sharks in the second round.
