San Jose Re-Signs Marleau and Pavelski

Today, the San Jose Sharks announced that they were re-signing top forwards Unrestricted Free Agent Patrick Marleau and Restricted Free Agent Joe Pavelski to four year deals. This comes one day after letting Evgeni Nabokov walk by choosing not to pick him up thus entering the Free Agency frenzy come July 1, 2010.

The Sharks signed former Captain Patrick Marleau to a four year, $6.9 million per year deal and playoff standout Joe Pavelski to a four year, $4 million per year deal. This comes one week after this season’s Captain Rob Blake retired as well. With Nabokov and Blake gone, the Sharks will need to find leadership, one has to wonder if Marleau will be ‘given’ his Captaincy back.

The salary cap for this season has been raised to $59.4 million with a floor of $44 million.  The Sharks currently sit at $32 million for their cap hit this year between Patrick Marleau, Joe Pavelski, Joe Thornton, Dany Heatley and Dan Boyle. Overall the Sharks have 14 players locked up with about $11 million in cap space to sign nine players.
