Colorado Acquires Winnik

The Colorado Avalanche announced the acquisition of forward Daniel Winnik, on Monday, from the Phoenix Coyotes. The Avalanche gave up a fourth round pick in 2012 for the soon to be restricted free agent. The Toronto, ON native recored four goals and 15 assists in 74 games with the Phoenix Coyotes last season. Winnik, 25, was originally drafted by the Phoenix Coyotes in 2004.

Much like former and now current teammate Peter Mueller, Winnik hit a scoring slump in his sophomore season with the club. He has shown in the past that he can bring that touch to the table. The Avalanche are hoping a change in scenary will do the same wonders for him that it did for Mueller. Given the Avalanche’s depth at Center with Stastny, Duchene, and O’Reilly it comes as no surprise that they picked up another winger.
