Devils Bolster Defense

New Jersey’s splash into the free agent market came with the signings of two defensemen.  Henrik Tallinder signed a four-year deal worth $3.375 million per season and Anton Volchenkov signed a six-year deal worth $4.25 million per season.

The signings are a good add to the Devils’ little known defense, especially after losing Paul Martin.

Tallinder notched 4 goals and 16 assists with the Buffalo Sabres last season and Volchenkov had similar numbers with 4 goals and 10 assists with the Ottawa Senators.

Goaltender Martin Brodeur more than likely drew a sigh of relief with the signings.  Brodeur will probably face fewer shots now with the new defensemen coming in.
