Latendresse Re-Signed

Late last night the Minnesota Wild and General Manager Chuck Fletcher re-signed Guillaume Latendresse. The youngster from Quebec was originally drafted by the Canadiens in 2005. He was picked in the second round, 45th overall. Despite his success in the junior leagues Guillaume never fully reached his potential. He was unable to hit 30 points in his three full years with the Canadiens. This past year he started with the Habs and played 23 games with two goals and one assist. Latendresse was traded for Benoit Pouliot. After moving over to the Wild he played in 55 games and had 25 goals and 12 assists.

Latendresse impressed Minnesota fans by bringing energy to every shift he skated as well as the tangible joy he had when skating. While out on the ice one could tell how grateful and happy he was to be out there. It was a pleasant surprise to Wild fans when the announcement was made last night by the Minnesota Wild’s twitter account MNWild. Within minutes Wild fans were elated and wanting to ‘buy Chuck Fletcher a round of drinks’ for the ultimately smart signing. Latendresse has signed an extension for two years at $2.5 million per year. A reasonable cap hit for a respectable winger.

Fletcher told the Wild’s website that he wanted to make sure he knew what he had to work with during the free agency. He has been busy locking up key compenents to the team he wants to build for the future. Two Wild players that may be playing with another team next year include Josh Harding (G) and Derek Boogaard (Buffoon on Skates) – as the Wild may finally be positioning themselves for a serious Cup run by unloading one dimensional players.
