Rangers First to Act in Free Agency

The New York Rangers didn’t wait at all when the free agency opened Thursday.  Minutes after the free agency started, they signed free-agent goaltender Marty Biron to a two-year deal worth slightly under $900,000 per season.

Biron was one of the last free agents taken last summer by the New York Islanders.  He served as backup to Rick DiPietro and Dwayne Roloson.  Biron has not been a starter since he was with the Philadelphia Flyers from 2006-2009.

Biron will continue the role of backup behind star goaltender Henrik Lundqvist.

The Rangers kept themselves busy by also re-signing restricted free-agent Erik Christensen to a two-year deal worth $975,000 per year.
