Avs Sign Eight Players on Day Two of Free Agency

While the Avs were silent as free agency opened on Thursday, the team got busy on Friday re-signing a couple of restricted free agents.  The Avs re-signed Kyle Quincey, 24, to a two-year contract.  Quincey will earn $6.25 million over the lifetime of the contract.  The Kitchener, ON native had six goals and 23 assists for the Avalanche in 2009-10 after being acquired from the Los Angeles Kings last summer.

In addition to Quincey, the Avs also signed recently acquired forward Daniel Winnik to a two-year, $1.9 million dollar, contract.  Winnik was traded from the Phoenix Coyotes to the Colorado Avalanche for a fourth round pick in 2012.  He had four goals and 15 assists for Phoenix last year.

The Avs didn’t ignore their farm team, the Lake Erie Monsters, by signing six additional players on Friday.  The Avs signed two goaltenders, Jason Bacashihua and Denver native John Grahame to one-year contracts.  Bacashihua spent two years with the Colorado organization before joining the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League in 2009-10.  Grahame had a brief stint with the Monsters in the 2009-10 season.

Colorado also added defenseman David Liffiton and forwards Greg Mauldin, Julian Talbot and David Van Der Gulik.  Liffiton was a draft pick of the Avalanche back in 2003.  He was later traded to the New York Rangers in the spring of 2004.  Talbot was acquired from the St Louis Blues for forward TJ Hensick.  Greg Mauldin was previously with the New York Islanders.  Van Der Gulik came from the Calgary Flames organization.
