Eaves Signs on for Another Year in Detroit

Patrick Eaves (17) celebrates with teammate Darren Helm (43)

Detroit has resigned gritty left wing Patrick Eaves, 26, to a one year $750,000 deal, the club announced on their official site this afternoon.

Eaves signed with the Red Wings last summer after being placed on waivers by the Bruins, following a trade from the Hurricanes. He seemed to find his niche in Detroit, playing on a revitalized penalty killing unit and tallying 12 goals and 10 assists in 65 games. His shot blocking ability will be a welcome return for the 10-11 season, even though he likely won’t be at the top of the list in the shootout order. (VIDEO: Eaves Shootout Fail)

A former Shattuck-St. Mary’s standout, Eaves went on to a successful NCAA campaign with Boston College, where he earned Hockey East’s Player of the Year award, as well as being named a first team All-American and Hobey Baker finalist. He was drafted 29th overall by the Ottawa Senators in the 2003 entry draft.
