Per news reports this afternoon, San Jose unrestricted free agent Evgeni Nabakov has signed a 4-year contract to play for the KHL’s SKA St. Petersburg. The deal is rumored to be worth $6-million US, though Nabakov will not confirm financial terms of the contract.

Nabakov was drafted in the 9th round (219th overall) of the 1994 entry draft by San Jose, and earned the Calder as the league’s Rookie of the Year in 2001. Despite two All-star appearances, two turns with Russia’s Olympic team, a pivotal role in the Sharks’ regular season successes, the team announced in June that it would not be offering the veteran goaltender a contract next season.

San Jose was swept 4-0 by Chicago in this year’s Western Conference Finals.
