The Colorado Avalanche announced on Wednesday the signing of forward Brandon Yip to a two-year contract.  Yip will earn $700,000 in the first year of the contract and $750,000 in the final year of the deal.  He will become an unrestricted free agent at the conclusion of the contract.

Yip spent four years at Boston University in which he won a national championship in 2008-09.  Yip signed an entry level contract with the Avs last summer, but the beginning of his professional career was derailed by an injury during a preseason fight.  Once healthy, he scored two goals in six games with the Lake Erie Monsters (AHL) before being recalled by the Avalanche.

While in Denver, Yip produced 19 points in 32 games this past season, including 11 goals.  He also had four points in the Avs first round Western Conference Quarterfinals loss to the San Jose Sharks.

In addition to Yip, the Avalanche also announced the signing of forward Ben Walter.  Walter had previous stints with the Boston Bruins, New York Islanders and most recently the New Jersey Devils.  He led the Lowell Devils (AHL) in scoring last year with 58 points in 78 games.
