I’m a Philadelphia native, so naturally the Philadelphia Flyers are my team. I have my dad and sister to thank for me discovering the wonderful game of hockey and my heroes in orange and black. I started watching because I wanted to be just like my older sister so that I could bond with my dad over the sport, but little did I know that I would develop a passion that is now greater than his and hers combined.

It’s been seven years since I became a fan and I am grateful everyday that I have found a sport and a team to put some much passion and dedication into following. I may be a Flyers fan through and through, but I have respect for the 29 other teams in the NHL as well. I do my best to watch as many NHL games as I can that don’t just involve the Flyers. The Washington Capitals are another team that I specifically enjoy watching.

Flyers fans might be portrayed as rude and obnoxious but I will tell you that I am anything but that. If you want to talk hockey, I’m your girl. I could talk about any team and any player for as long as you like. Of course my face lights up a little bit more when it’s the Flyers that we are talking about.

As great as it is to watch a game from the comfort of your own home, there is nothing like witnessing a game in person. From the smell of the ice, to the sound of a tape to take pass or the clank of a goal post, the game of hockey is a beautiful thing. I have the now Adirondack Phantoms of the AHL to thank for my first ever live hockey game. I was 10 years old when I first saw the Phantoms back when they played in Philadelphia, and after that there was no looking back. I was set to be a hockey fan for life.

I’m a very emotional fan but also a very dedicated fan. The Philadelphia Flyers really do have a special place in my heart. It is impossible for me to ever give up on them. And I will stick with them through everything. They are my team no matter what, and I will always be proud of the orange and black. Since it’s also natural to have a favorite player or two, I am proud to say that Kimmo Timonen is my favorite NHL player. I have the utmost admiration and respect for him. I am known to praise him a lot since he is one of the more underrated players on this Flyers team.
