Kris

My name is Kris and I’m addicted to hockey.  I’ve been known to spend hours geeking out over a well-placed saucer pass through the neutral zone, a perfectly-executed deke, or a skillful backcheck.  The feats of strength and skill and, yes, grace that I see out on the ice never cease to amaze me.  This fascination with this glorious game that we all love has been one of the few constants in my life as I’ve grown up.

I got my start as a Red Wings fan at an early age.  I was born and raised in Hockeytown, so I guess you could say the Winged Wheel is in my blood.  I really don’t remember a time when I didn’t love this team.  I’ve got a lifetime’s worth of fond memories tied up in the red and white from watching games as a kid to getting my first jersey to being at the Joe the night Steve Yzerman scored his 600th goal to running through the streets of Detroit in the rain screaming and high-fiving strangers the night they won in ’08 to getting to meet The Captain at the rink to wearing tin foil hats to a game at the Joe with a couple hundred internet friends.

My favorite player is and always will be Steve Yzerman.  I think that goes without saying for most Wings fans.  He took over the captaincy the year I was born.  I made it to age 20 before ever seeing another man wear the C for the Wings.  For Detroiters, he represents Hockeytown.  He is the team.

My current favorites are Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk.  I can never quite decide which one I like more.  Datsyuk has the flash and the ability to amaze the crowd.  Zetterberg has the offensive skill along wit the ability to render opposing stars invisible.  It’s a treat to watch them out on the ice every game and just another one of the blessings that we’ve been given as Red Wings fans.
