Hawks and Pens @ Mellon Arena

I was born and raised in Northwest Chicago in a household full of guys including my dad and two brothers. They taught me the love of the Cubs, Bulls, and the team that I fell in love with the most: the Blackhawks. However when I was growing up, the Hawks were never the lovable team round town and unfortunately, my brothers never took an interest in playing hockey. But I kept my love for hockey alive whether it was playing floor hockey for the park district or going to a few Hawks games with my dad. I really fell in love with hockey when my dad made me a fan of the Colorado Avalanche with the likes of Sakic, Foote, Forsberg, Tanguay, and Roy. I got to see them win a cup and there was no turning back after that.

In the most recent years, I have remained a fan of the Hawks especially with the recent developments and accomplishments and of the Avs with their young core but I have also come to respect and love the Penguins. Seeing Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin take a last place organization and make it Stanley Cup Champions and contenders amazes me to this day. They also do it respectably and honestly as skillful and talented hockey players. They best exemplify what it means to be a player in the NHL.

Bolland and I

I really just cannot get enough of hockey. I attend Rockford Icehogs and Chicago Wolves games when Hawks tickets are not in my price range. I am also a huge college hockey fan especially of the University of North Dakota. I am hoping to catch them play against Madison this year.

My two best friends and I have also made a pact to visit every NHL arena in our lifetime. We have crossed 4 off our list with trips to the UC, Mellon Arena, Scottrade Center, and Nationwide Arena. This season we are hoping to make trips to the West Coast to cross some more off.
For me, I am a sophomore at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign working on my degree is Sports Management. I one day would love to be involved in the hockey world whether it is with one of the franchises, working in the arenas, or companies that deal with the players and their equipment. I can’t get enough of sports especially with my part-time job at Dick’s Sporting Goods and I am hoping to work at the basketball stadium at my school this coming school year.
