Puck Bunnies

We at Chicks Who Give A Puck are on a mission; it started as a joke on Twitter & then the sad realization sank in that there are not enough women who are truly interested in the sport of hockey. Sure we’ve all seen the girl who is screaming her lungs out at a hockey game, but does she know the difference between a cross check & a poke check? What about fore-checking & back-checking? Does five hole, glove side, or stick side mean anything to her? The goal of this page is to a) discourage women from becoming Puck Bunnies, b) encourage men & women to educate themselves more about this great sport, & c) have a little fun!

Puck Bunny – Definition: (1) Female hockey fan who knows nothing about the sport but talks as if they know everything. i.e. Confuses Mario Lemiuex with Claude Lemiuex, if she even knows who either one is. (2) Female hockey fan who overdresses to hockey games. i.e. Wearing excessive make-up, heels, & bar/clubbing gear. (3) Female hockey fan who only watches because a player is ‘Hot’. i.e. Girls who love Sidney Crosby for his looks, not his talent or off-ice presence/good deeds.(4) Female hockey fan who only likes the sport because her boyfriend/fiance/husband does.

To stop being a ‘Puck Bunny’ & start the process of becoming a ‘Chick Who Gives a Puck’ we’ve created an easy four step program for you!  First & foremost start reading our blog on a regular basis!  Second?  Watch more hockey.  Third?  Ask questions, lots & lots of questions.  And finally, there’s nothing Google can’t help you learn when you’re confused.

THANK YOU!!!! I have been fuming for YEARS about female sports fans who are on their cell phones and throwing around their hair and wear WAY too much makeup to sports events. I get looked at like a “bandwagon” fan whenever I engage in a sports conversation with the boys, or they assume I don’t know the players or the rules of the game. WRONG!!!! Best of luck with your web site and raising awareness of the horrifying issue! 😉

Great idea. My two girlfriends (we’re partial-season tix holders) and I mock the Puck Bunnies. Notably the one we saw earlier this year wearing a Byfuglien (I spelled that without looking it up) jersey she had BEDAZZLED. I shit you not.

Well played. All I can say is Chicago has been LOUSY with Puck Bunnies and their twee little feminized Hawks gear throughout this entire ridiculous Stanley Cup run. If I have to hear one more time how hot Patrick Sharp is, I’m gonna jam a skate blade in my ear.

The ardently anti-puck bunny female fan contingent of the Buffalo Sabres would love to see this page. Here in Buffalo, the Sabres’ lady fans will up and sock you in the face if you call ’em puck bunnies.

I can imagine Chicago is pretty bad!! I haven’t seen too many Bunnies in Denver (though I only went to one game this past season) but when I was at MSG for a Islanders-Rangers game a couple seasons ago the only girls I saw were drinking cocktails and gabbing about the guys through the entire game. I wanted to choke them. Love this page!
